The 14th season of Wide Open Works continues Thursday, December 14 at 8pm (EST) live-streaming from Soapbox Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. Multi-instrumentalist phenomena Scott Robinson performs with WORKS (Michel Gentile, Daniel Kelly & Rob Garcia). Scott performs on a wide range of instruments including trumpet, C-melody saxophone, ophicleide and contra-bass saxophone. WORKS has exploited its unique instrumentation of flute, piano and drums to forge a distinct and powerful musical voice, putting the “focus on the dynamic writing and deep simpatico of the trio itself” (The Village Voice). This live streamed concert will feature new work composed specially for this event. Don't miss it!

Connection Works, a leader in artist-run organizations, continues its 14th season of its premiere concert series, Wide Open Works (WOW). For 14 years Connection Works has been presenting world-class performances and educational events bringing hundreds of musicians to the Brooklyn stage, such as Grammy winner Joe Lovano, NEA Jazz Masters Dave Liebman & Sheila Jordan, jazz legend Lee Konitz, MacArthur Genius Grant Fellows Dafnis Prieto, Steve Coleman & Tyshawn Sorey; John Hollenbeck, Anat Cohen, Kate McGarry, Billy Hart, John Abercrombie, Matt Wilson, Aaron Diehl, Wycliffe Gordon and many more.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty of the situation, our first few concerts of the season will be remote and live streamed. We are prepared to return to having live audiences whenever that becomes possible.

Connection Works’ ensemble-in-residence Wide Open is a collective of established composer/improvisers using their unique chamber instrumentation to explore new musical terrain, keeping all possibilities wide open. The unique instrumentation of flute, violin, saxophone, trombone, piano, bass and drums allows composers to develop work that draws equally from jazz, classical, world and folk music traditions.

The members of Wide Open have performed and recorded with a stunning range of artists, including Ray Charles, Wynton Marsalis, Sting, D’Angelo, Bruce Springsteen, Kronos Quartet, Bang on a Can All-Stars, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Woody Allen, Joe Lovano, Lauryn Hill, John Zorn and many more.
